Calm, Rolling Home

I’ve not written in a while.

I’ve not been ignoring this site and my feelings, but I’ve had a lot going on. I’ve mentioned previously that I’ve been thinking about moving home to Melbourne from Sydney. I’ve made that decision.

The exact timeline of that isn’t clear just yet. My employer has been fully supportive of my wish to relocate to their Melbourne office, so there’s no concern about employment which has taken away the stress that such a move might have caused in a financial sense.

I feel that it is likely that it will be towards the end of 2026 or early 2027 – there’s just a lot to organise. Moving cities is a big job.

My son doesn’t get to see the rest of our family often – mostly Christmas – so he is looking forward to it too.

What I don’t know is how it affects the friendship between Maddie and myself. I’m sure we will be fine, I’m not worried about that. It’s just that we’ve lived pretty close to each – (same city at least!) – for quite some time, and have come to rely on being able to reach each other and meet up at short notice to lean on each other.

She is of course still in London working. I’ve gotten a vibe lately that things aren’t going too well between her and her man though. She hasn’t said as much, but we can both always tell when something is up for the other. As I said, it’s just a vibe.

Normally, getting that kind of feeling for her would make me sad for her – (and it still does) – but it also usually flickers a little flame of hope inside of me.

And I guess there is a little of that – but I’m trying to not let my head get carried away with it, and mostly it seems that I am doing that quite well. It isn’t taking up all my brain processing power as it can sometimes do. I’m calm with how things feel.

Maddie is still away in London for at least another year, and we still talk when we can. I’ll just keep being there for her, and if she brings up the topic of her current relationship, I’ll keep supporting her like always.

But I’m calm, and I feel good.

And now, I’m rolling home.
